Boat Registration

Boat Registration

The State of Delaware is one of the most convenient states in the US for boat registration. As a rule, every boat, vessel, jet ski, or any other personal watercraft operated on Delaware waterways must be registered. Non-resident boats/vessels using the waters of Delaware for principal use over 60 days and non-residents owning a boat docked and/or stowed in waters of Delaware for over 60 days must be registered in Delaware.

Upon registration of the vessel the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife will provide a State of Delaware certificate of registration listing the name and address of the owner, and details from the application to be signed and kept on the vessel for inspection. Two validation decals are provided that need to be affixed to the hull of the boat.

The vessel can be owned either privately or through a corporate entity. Although it is cheaper to register privately, the name of the owner will be listed on the register. DCS can assist in formation of a Delaware corporate entity through which an individual can choose to own property.
